After a scenic train trip and a bus connection (some of the tracks still need to be fixed after the January flooding) we were deposited in Ollantaytambo (I still struggle to pronounce it without stuttering). The town is famous for its Inca ruins which are the only place where the Incas won a battle against the Spanish.
Just a typical street. See the ruins above the buildings?
They were food store houses.
There has been a lot of step climbing at high altitudes here.
Temple of the Sun
Town from the top of the terraces
Clever stonework
Baths area
We were lucky enough to be in town for the annual ceremony to bless the start of the agricultural season. Even the animals got dressed up.
Interesting costumes for the statue bearers
It's those funky hat/masks again!
Just wandering down the street with a slab of meat over the shoulder, as you do.
The local taxi. Mini vans drive around and pick people up and keep picking them up even when you think there is no way anyone else could squeeze in.
This one was pretty empty.
